Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant variation, has increased in popularity so rapidly.

Omaha hi/low begins exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A sequence of wagering follows in which gamblers can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. One more sequence of wagering ensues. After all the players have in turn called or folded, an additional card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of wagering happens and then the river card is flipped. The entrants must attempt to put together the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a few players get confused. Contrasted to Holdem, where the board can make up every player's hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must use precisely three cards on the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It's the best hand out of every player's, it doesn't matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It's the very same approach in almost every poker game.

The lower hand is more complex, but really free's up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don't count. A low hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there's no low hand presented, the high hand wins the whole pot.

Although it seems difficult at the start, after a couple of hands you will be agile enough to get the fundamental subtleties of the game simply enough. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are being used at the same time, Omaha 8 or better offers an amazing array of wagering possibilities and because you have many players shooting for the high, along with a few shooting for the low hand. If you love a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to play Omaha 8 or better.
