Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender in the world by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover everything he could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn't let the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the best poker players in the world.

He started competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn't a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he's learning every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
