Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the globe by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse comments from others destroy his goal of being one of the best poker players in the world.

He began competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn't a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for poker. He states that he's learning every day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
